GAIA Children's Art on display in Departures' Lounge

PRESS RELEASE- January 20th, 2017 GAIA - Over 200 pieces of art submitted into the airport children’s art competition is being displayed in the Airport over the winter season which ends in April.The art, work of primary and secondary students were part of the Airport Children’s art competition held in the last quarter of 2015 to commemorate the country’s 50th year of independence, under the theme, “Barbados, My Country, My Home”.Six winners were chosen by an independent panel of judges and they were presented with their prizes during a ceremony in the passenger seating area of the Departures’ Lounge by Gate 11.Corporate Communications Specialist, Keith Goddard said the event forms part of a larger project of GAIA Inc. to develop the “Arts in the Airport” initiative.According to him, the arts in the airport programme will enhance the customer experience for passengers by exhibiting artwork and presenting various aspects of art that engages travelers in innovative and memorable experiences. The programme has four components, culinary, visual arts, fashion shows and live performing arts such as music, dance & drama.“Under this programme, GAIA Inc will work with various agencies and individuals to provide an experience showcasing diverse talent and culture that fully represents Barbados.  This will include but is not limited to rotating art exhibits, live performances and a taste of the island’s fashion and culinary delights that celebrate the beauty, spirit and great creativity of local artistes” Goddard told the audience.INDIVIDUAL CATEGORIES     1st prize - 9-12 years category – Tiffany Webster- Ch Ch Foundation School1st prize -13- 16 years category- Malik Clarke – Ch Ch Foundation School 2nd prize – 9-12 years category – Sharde Clarke St. Martins Mangrove Primary2nd prize – 13-16 years category- Frederick Eastmond- Ch Ch Foundation- 3rd prize – 9 -12 years category - Destiny Haynes – St. Marks Primary3rd prize – 13-16 years category- Evan Mc Donald - Ch Ch Foundation
